Sustainability

A long history of recycling

Blum has a long history of efforts to minimize its impact on the environment, reduce waste and recycle as many materials as possible. Measures taken to truly protect the environment have proven beneficial in the long term, not only in lessening the environmental impact but also in improved efficiencies.

One of our ongoing efforts is to reuse materials wherever possible. We mix recycled material with virgin raw material in many of our production processes. Amounts vary depending on the effects of recycled material on strength and color. All zinc and nylon components are produced virtually waste-free in closed cycle processes, therefore there is almost no waste in the production of these items.

Environmental protection measures

As a manufacturer, it is important to practice sustainable efforts inside and outside of our facilities. We utilize reusable plastic and wooden containers for material handling within the plant to minimize packaging use. To ensure a green facility, the resource and energy management includes heat recovery systems, building insulation, heating control systems, ground water cooling, and energy efficient lighting systems with LED technology. Any leftover batteries, paint, and refrigerant are properly handled and disposed of by companies that specialize in these materials. To further reduce our impact on the environment, manufacturing in the US reduces transportation emissions.
