Living and design inspirations from Milan

Blum Trend Report 2026 online now

The international furniture and design industry came together in Milan from 21 to 26 April for Salone del Mobile and EuroCucina. Blum also spent the week in the Italian fashion capital to scout out the latest kitchen and living trends for the Trend Report 2026.

The six days of the 64th Salone del Mobile were a festival of interior concepts, exciting details and high-quality furniture designs. "The buzz was incredible. With so many styles and visitors from around the world, you couldn't help but be inspired," was how Philipp Blum, Managing Director of the Blum Group, characterised this year's event. Salone del Mobile is a global platform for presenting future trends in kitchen and furniture design. "Our hard work over the years is paying off and we are a highly respected name on the market. With Blum products in nearly every display kitchen in Milan, it's clear that pioneering designs are made possible by our fittings solutions. This is a source of great pride for us, and is the foundation for the excellent relationships we enjoy with our customers."

Trends are moving towards rounded edges and an elegant material mix

As in previous years, a team of experts from Blum made the trip to Italy to explore the latest trends and innovations on behalf of everyone who couldn't be there in person. Mario Schmelzenbach, interior designer and head of the trade fair booth construction team at Blum, shared his insights: "The styles were dominated by warm, earthy tones like clay, terracotta, rust, rosé and aubergine. The colour pallet was grounded and organic, with a welcoming and homely atmosphere, rather than loud and in-your-face. In terms of visual design, smooth and rounded edges were very much in vogue." Darker timber materials – especially oak – were in the ascendency. These were often combined with stone and metal enhancing the impression of quality and durability.

Fronts with profile frames and Japandi influences

The Blum Trend Report 2026 is packed with fascinating details: "We observed that fronts are becoming increasingly wider and are accentuated by an all-round profile frame," reported Schmelzenbach. His expert eye also homed in on the influences behind the designs: "The more minimalist approach of Japanese and Asian cultures was unmistakeable: less ornamentation and a greater focus on material quality, proportionality and functionality." The report brings together the main developments in categories such as colour, texture and materials, and shows how the boundaries between the kitchen and the rest of the home are merging to form multifunctional living spaces. Our trend analyses are also accompanied by photos and short videos with appraisals from our experts.
