Our contribution to de-carbonisation

As an industrial company, our energy demand is high. That's why energy supply is a particularly important topic for us, and why it also plays a key role in our sustainability efforts.

Taking steps towards greater energy efficiency

Given our energy-intensive value chain, it is important that we use energy efficiently. Critical factors here include the choice of primary energy sources, the resulting dependencies, the energy mix and the associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Hurray for hydropower!

Since 2018, the electricity for all eight of our plants in Vorarlberg has been sourced solely from hydraulic power stations in Austria.

Thanks to this switch, we've been able to reduce the carbon footprint of our entire company by over 40%.

District heating

Since 2020, we have connected to a district heating system in the immediate vicinity to source the energy to heat Plants 7 and 8 in Dornbirn. This has allowed us to save 160 tonnes of CO2.

Heat recovery

We have been recovering heat from ventilation air for years. 95% of our ventilation systems have already been fitted with suitable equipment. We are also continually optimising the utilisation of waste heat from the production of compressed air. This will save us more than 15,200 megawatt hours of energy and 2.26 million m3of natural gas.

Photovoltaics

We use renewable forms of energy worldwide in our day-to-day operations – from the power supply, to building services, to production.

Our largest PV system is currently located at our site in China. At 8240 squaremetres,it has a nominal output of 1400 kWp.

By using renewable energies, we're making a significant contribution to the de-carbonisation of the industry.
