Austrian fittings manufacturer Blum is building a new plant in Dornbirn’s industrial area. Construction work started early January. Hoechst / Austria Blum is running short of warehouse capacity, dispatch area and loading ramps at its existing dispatch sites in Vorarlberg and that is why the Austrian fittings manufacturer has bought a plot of land with a rail connection in the industrial area in Dornbirn, the largest city in the Vorarlberg. At Blum’s new plant 7, containers will be loaded directly onto trains and transported in an environmentally-friendly manner to ports in Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Antwerp and Rotterdam. Production and dispatchExtensive soil improvement measures (pile foundations) were started in December, and construction work is scheduled to begin in February. Total investments in Blum’s new building and warehouse in Dornbirn will amount to 42 million euros. Some 15,000 sq. metres (161,460 sq. ft.) of area will be used for the project. The new plant in Dornbirn will deal with dispatch and logistics operations. An automated high bay warehouse with a dispatch area will be built to this end. In addition, the plant will accommodate new production areas for the assembly of fittings and provide the infrastructure required. Plant 7 in Dornbirn will be completed by autumn 2009 at the latest. There will be some 250 workplaces at Blum’s new plant with 60 new jobs being created in the process.
